Founder of Oscar’s Table

Oscar’s Table was born from one of the hardest experiences of my life — losing my dad, Oscar Alferez Jr.

In the middle of grieving, my family was also faced with everything that comes after a loss. There were arrangements to make, a celebration of life to plan, people to feed, expenses to worry about, and countless details that still needed to be handled when all we really wanted was the space to grieve.

I remember thinking how difficult it was to carry all of those responsibilities while trying to process losing my dad. Our family was incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by people who loved my dad and showed up for us when we needed them most. That experience showed me just how powerful a community can be when people come together to care for a grieving family.

It also made me realize something I couldn't forget:

Families experiencing loss shouldn't have to worry about taking care of everyone else while they're grieving.

That is why I created Oscar’s Table.

My hope is to provide practical, compassionate support during the days surrounding a loss — whether that means helping provide a meal, supporting a celebration of life, helping with setup or cleanup, or simply taking one responsibility off a family's shoulders.

I can't take away someone's grief. But through Oscar's Table, I hope we can make what they're carrying just a little lighter.

This organization is my way of carrying my dad's heart forward. He was deeply loved, and the way our community showed up for our family after losing him is something I will never forget.

Now, I want to create that same feeling of care for other families.

Oscar's Table is his legacy, my purpose, and a promise that no family should have to carry every part of grief alone.
